Neuroprotective effects of crude extract of Crataegus songarica on a rat model of traumatic brain injury

چکیده

Purpose: To investigate the protective effect of Crataegus songarica extract (CSCE) against traumatic brain injury (TBI) in rats, and underlying mechanism action.
Methods: A rat model TBI was established via tracheal intubation procedure, rats were treated with graded doses CSCE. Neuronal survival determined by Nissl staining, while neuronal apoptosis measured using TUNEL-staining. Neurological impairments based on neurological severity score (NSS).
Results: Treatment CSCE enhanced decreased TUNEL-positive cell fraction cortex. The treatment prevented elevation NSS suppressed mRNA protein expression levels IL-6 TNF-α Moreover, TBI-mediated suppression activities superoxide dismutase (SOD) glutathione peroxidase (GPx), attenuated hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) down-regulated NF-κB expression, increased Nrf2 up-regulated expressions heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) quinine oxidoreductase (NQO-1).
Conclusion: These results suggest that prevents reduction inhibits cortical death rats. It improves inflammatory response activation pathway targeting expression. Therefore, is a potential therapeutic agent for TBI.

Neuroprotective effects of gallic acid in a rat model of traumatic brain injury: behavioral, electrophysiological and molecular studies

Objective(s): Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the main causes of intellectual and cognitive disabilities. Clinically, it is essential to limit the development of cognitive impairment after TBI.  In the present study, the neuroprotective effects of gallic acid (GA) on neurological score, memory, long-term potentiation (LTP) from hippocampal dentate gyrus (hDG), brain lipid peroxidation an...

P143: The Neuroprotective Effect of Chloroquine in Animal Model of Traumatic Brain Injury

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in young adults and children, and is a leading public health problem worldwide. In TBI, neurological impairment is caused by immediate brain tissue disruption (primary injury) and post‑injury cellular and molecular events (secondary injury) that exacerbate the primary neurological insult. However, the destructi...

The Effects of Female Sex Steroids on Gastric Secretory Responses of Rat Following Traumatic Brain Injury

Objective(s) Gastric ulceration is induced by various forms of stress like surgery, ischemia and trauma. The female sex has more resistance to stress and the gastrointestinal lesions happen fewer than male sex. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of estradiol and progesterone on the gastric acid and pepsin levels following traumatic brain injury (TBI) induction. Materials and M...

Neuroprotective effects of crocin on the histopathological alterations following brain ischemia-reperfusion injury in rat

Objective(s): Some histopathological alterations take place in the ischemic regions following brain ischemia. Recent studies have demonstrated some neuroprotective roles of crocin in different models of experimental cerebral ischemia. Here, we investigated the probable neuroprotective effects of crocin on the brain infarction and histopathological changes after transient model of focal cerebral...
